The philosophy behind this course is that anyone can become a competent presenter if they are prepared to put in the time in preparation and practice. Preparation is the key to good presentation and accordingly the course is divided into two parts:
9:45 Part One: Preparation:
Here we look at the key elements of carefully preparing to deliver an effective presentation.

Timing - ensure enough time to prepare, begin early

Purpose - What are you trying to say? Persuade? Educate? Inform?

Structure - 4X4 rule- 4 lines per slide, 4 words per line

Use of notes: ‘Handout’ style, A4 style folder, or 3” X 5” cards

Rehearsal and practice: The most neglected part of preparation!

Check logistics: “Amateurs talk strategy, professionals talk logistics”

11:00 Part Two: Presentation:
This is what you actually do when you stand up to speak.

Presenter’s worst fears: Stage fright, hostile audience, forgetting…etc.,

Presenter’s to 5 mistakes: Talking to screen, ‘Fiddling’, ‘Umming’, etc.

Coping with nerves: Deep breathing techniques, using a ‘Worry stone’
